Saw a heron on the way up, coming through the old bullock field. It came down to land on a treetop, which I've never seen and I got quite a good look at it before it flew off.

Then coming along the bank near the elder tree, I spotted a fox. Must be the same one I saw the other day. It  was a fair way off, so I stood still and watched through my binos. It carried on towards me for a while, until it finally turned off and down the bank into the field. I'm guessing it has a lair under that tree. That's the best sighting of a fox I've ever had.

Two days ago I saw the kingfisher again, and then up in the fields, two hares bounding long the path. But the footpath along the field edge turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. I found it easily enough, but it was full of nettles and thistles, impassible in shorts. No one's been that way for years, I'd say. With the wheat all cut you might do it, walking in the edge of the field itself, but not otherwise.
